Milking It

Quality control! Two words that have a hugely significant meaning in the western world, seem to be mere after thoughts (if even that) here in China. First, they poisoned our pets, next they put lead in our infants toys, then metalic lolly pops and now even we have tainted milk...fantastic. Oh and recently, not just in baby formula, but now in liquid milk--milk that geoff and I have been drinking (to be honest almost every big name company had traces of it so my advice is to stop drinking any milk).

The irony of this situation is staggering, except for the fact that in China, irony doesn't exist. Let me explain, China, for the past almost decade, has promoted a policy of getting a liter of milk a day to every child in China. The goal of which: a stronger, and healthier next generation, nourished by the same western mainstay that has made American's so successful (right?). However, when the milk you are pushing down your children's contains a poison, the whole policy seems irrelevant, if not contradictory.

While I was aware that powder milk was affected, this morning, after drinking my daily box of milk for breakfast, I went onto CNN to hear the bad news. The three biggest milk companies in China had melanine in them. Yet according to the Chinese State Administration of Quality Supervision (yes the actually bureau name is an oxymoron, I know), adults will be unaffected unless they drink more than 2 liters a day...I wouldn't take my chance though.
